JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Funk Fest made its return to Jacksonville on Friday, and while some concertgoers expressed excitement for the event’s comeback, others shared disappointment.
After a seven-year absence, the Jacksonville Funk Fest returned to Metropolitan Park for a two-day outdoor music experience with an R&B and hip-hop lineup that included 112, Trey Songz, Carl Thomas, Charlie Wilson and more.

But some performers were cut short or did not hit the stage at all.
King George posted a video showing that he made it to the venue—even though he did not perform—and it appears he met with fans.
“Jacksonville, sorry we missed you. The weather wasn’t feeling it,” he wrote.
Trey Songz was another big name who never got on stage.
He shared a post online that said, “My sincere apologies to the people of Jacksonville, Florida. The storm conditions didn’t allow for me to perform, and I hope I get to make it up to you soon.”
Some attendees expressed their frustrations online, complaining about bad weather and canceled performances.
One person said, “A total disappointment, almost 2 hours waiting in line, over 2 hour delay in performer start time, overpriced food & drink, no jumbo trons (large screens) to see the “two” performers... never again!”
“NEVER AGAIN!!! My husband paid $640 for vip 2 day tickets & I didn’t get to see the main acts I wanted to. No King George, Trey Songz or Carl Thomas,” a visitor from Alabama said.
Many attendees called for organizers to issue either full or at least partial refunds.
According to the FAQs on the Funk Fest website, “This event is held rain or shine. OUTDOOR EVENT, BUYER ASSUMES ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH INCLEMENT WEATHER. NO REFUNDS. NO EXCHANGES.”
News4JAX reached out to the organizers about the comments. A spokesperson replied, saying they were aware of the feedback posted on social media. This was the response they shared:
“Weather-related flight delays and cancellations did impact the show, and city ordinances required us to pause the show during lightning to prioritize everyone’s safety. We communicated these updates to attendees throughout the event and truly appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our guests.
“Our goal is always to create a memorable and safe experience for everyone involved, and we’re grateful for the continued support from our community. We’ll be sharing more highlights and updates soon to recap the weekend.”
The organizers issued a similar statement on Facebook, along with a photo of sections of the waiver attendees were required to sign.
A part of that waiver says: The city may immediately terminate the event if the National Weather Service issues a severe weather warning or if there is a risk for public safety.
Organizers say that signing the waiver means you waive any rights and claims for damages against the city.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Jacksonville @funkfestconcert this weekend. We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated the challenges presented by the weather. Due to weather-related flight delays and cancellations, some performances were impacted. While we’re able to keep the music going through the rain, lightning poses serious safety concerns and, per city ordinance, requires us to pause the show to ensure everyone’s safety.
Our priority is always the well-being of our guests, artists, and staff, and we thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Stay connected for more updates and highlights from the weekend
