1. (1) Clay (10-0, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Dunnellon, Fleming Island, Oakleaf, Ridgeview.
Notable: The Blue Devils open the District 5-2A tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face Baker County on Wednesday night. A win would send them on to a Thursday championship against Ridgeview or North Marion. The Blue Devils should wind up as the top seed in Region 2-2A. They are the No. 3 overall team in 2A.
2. (2) Ponte Vedra (13-1, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Davenport, Destin, Fletcher, Sandalwood, Tocoi Creek, Wakulla, Yulee.
Notable: The first-year Sharks open the District 3-3A tournament as the No. 1 seed and will open on Wednesday night against Bartram Trail. The Bears were one of Ponte Vedra’s more challenging games in the regular season (18-7). The Sharks, riding a 12-game winning streak, are comfortably in the playoffs. They’re currently a No. 2 seed behind Pace.
3. (3) Fleming Island (11-2, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Keystone Heights, Mandarin, Oakleaf, Paxon, White.
Notable: The Golden Eagles are the No. 4 seed in Region 1-3A, just in front of No. 5 Fletcher. Those teams square off in the District 3-3A semifinals on Wednesday night. Fleming walloped Riverside (20-6) and First Coast (34-0) since our last Super 6.
4. (4) Fletcher (12-2, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast (twice), Mandarin, Paxon, Sandalwood, White.
Notable: The Senators topped Orange Park (13-6) in the District 3-3A quarterfinals and face a tough Fleming Island in the semis on Wednesday night. They’re locked into the playoffs but a win over Fleming in the district tournament will almost certainly jump them over the Golden Eagles in the Region 1-3A bracket.
5. (5) Bradford (11-2, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Eagle’s View, Keystone Heights, Newberry, Ridgeview, Suwannee, White.
Notable: The Tornadoes bounced back from a loss to Florida High with a resounding romp over a quality Ed White squad (28-0). They thrashed Newberry in the District 4-1A semifinals and face 10-1 Santa Fe on Thursday in the district final. The schedule hasn’t done them any favors. The Tornadoes are currently a No. 3 seed in Region 1-2A, trailing Florida High and University Christian.
6. (6) Bartram Trail (12-4, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Bishop Snyder, Mandarin, Sandalwood, Yulee.
Notable: The Bears need to win. Right now, they are No. 8 in Region 1-3A, and right on the cut line for reaching the playoffs. There is a saving grace. Lake Howell, the No. 9 team, is an underdog in its district final against Oviedo. Same thing with No. 10 team Tallahassee Lincoln against Chiles. Upset wins in either of those districts will squeeze Bartram out of the playoff picture if it doesn’t win District 3-3A. It is in the semis against Super 6 No. 2 Ponte Vedra on Wednesday.
