High school baseball playoffs ’25: Columbia, Tocoi Creek move on to regional semifinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Columbia and Tocoi Creek’s baseball teams became the latest to reach the second round of the playoffs.

The Tigers finished off a sweep of Mosley in Region 1-5A with a 10-0 romp, while Tocoi Creek sailed into the Region 1-6A semifinals with a 1-0 victory over East River. Those teams open regional semifinal play on April 30.

Still alive in Region 1-7A is Creekside, which is headed to a decisive Game 3 against Timber Creek, as well as Fletcher in Region 1-6A. The Senators face Tate in Game 3. Both are on Saturday.

Wednesday’s recaps

Columbia, Creekside and Tocoi Creek won their baseball playoff openers on Wednesday night and are just one victory away from moving on to next week’s regional semifinals.

The Knights topped Spruce Creek 3-0 in the Region 1-7A quarterfinals, taking a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Columbia held off Mosley 2-1 in Region 1-5A and Tocoi Creek beat East River 5-2.

The road will be more challenging for Atlantic Coast, Fletcher and Ponte Vedra, all of whom lost their openers. First Coast was eliminated in Region 1-6A as powerhouse Gainesville Buchholz swept the Buccaneers.

Teams in Classes 1A-4A played the first two games in their series Monday and Tuesday. If needed, Game 3 in those matchups are Thursday night.
