1. (1) Baker County (17-4, Class 4A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Columbia (twice), Fort White, Hilliard, Keystone Heights (twice), Middleburg (twice), Oakleaf, Paxon, West Nassau (twice).
Notable: Finally, some stability in the Super 6. After weeks of teams swapping positions at the top spot, the Wildcats lock it down after winning four straight. The District 3-4A tournament is up next, and Baker County should storm through it as it tries to return to the state championship game. Baleigh Shields (.543, 4 HR, 18 RBI) and Chloe Johnson (.359, 2 HR, 17 RBI) lead the Baker County regulars.
2. (3) Matanzas (19-1, Class 5A)
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Beachside, DeLand, Spruce Creek, St. Cloud, Taylor Pierson, Orange City University (twice), West Nassau (twice).
Notable: Gators signee Leah Stevens is a monster. She whiffed 15 in a 1-0 win over West Nassau, a game where the Pirates were actually no-hit but managed to win. one of the best arms around (10-1, 149 Ks in 65.2 IP, 0.43 ERA). 3. (4) Fort White (16-5, Rural)
Quality wins: Branford, Columbia, Santa Fe (twice), Trenton, Williston (twice).
Notable: This Indians are on a roll. They beat Santa Fe (4-0) for the second time this season since our last Super 6. They’re a state semifinal contender for sure. Senior Kadence Compton (.431, 5 HR) leads at the plate and in the circle (13-4, 118.2 IP, 161 Ks, 0.72 ERA).
4. (2) Baldwin (16-7, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Baker County, Bartram Trail, Bishop Snyder, Columbia, Mandarin, Middleburg, Paxon (twice), Trinity Catholic.
Notable: The Indians remained going up and down. They’ve been hot and cold this season more than they have in recent seasons. They beat a quality Middleburg (5-3), but lost to Creekside (3-1) and Yulee (5-3) since our last Super 6. Kendall North (.466, 19 RBI, 2 HR), Makaila Fry (.400, 24 RBI), Izabella Screws (.390, 10 RBI), Raven Watson (.385, 11 RBI) and Jazmine Ramos-Merced (.382, 9 HR, 33 RBI) are leading the way.
5. (5) Atlantic Coast (20-5, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Bishop Kenny, Creekside, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Fletcher (twice), Paxon.
Notable: The Stingrays finally escaped their slump, beating Flagler Palm Coast (17-4) and Fernandina Beach (4-2) since our last Super 6 to end a three-game losing streak. Notable: The Eagles have been another tough team to figure out. They beat West Nassau (3-2) and Mandarin (3-1) since our last Super 6, but lost 4-1 to a sub-.500 Ridgeview (4-1). Amelia Oreair (.466, 7 HR, 31 RBI), Emily Davidson (.453), Crissie Clayman (.348, 14 RBI), Claire Cinnamond (.338, 19 RBI) and Riley Valent (.329, 4 HR, 20 RBI) lead the Eagles.
T6. (6) Middleburg (16-8, Class 5A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Bartram Trail, Clay, Columbia, Cornerstone Charter, Episcopal, Fletcher, Mandarin, Nease, Oakleaf, West Nassau, Yulee.
Notable: The Broncos are another team who has struggled with consistency. I’ve debated moving them out but they’ve answered the local challenges. Even with a loss to Baldwin since our last Super 6, they stacked Ws over quality teams in Bartram Trail (8-0) and Clay (17-1). Kerra Clarida (.455, 4 HR, 28 RBI), Mallory Ficklin (.358), Mika Wesley (.354), KK Hagan (.329, 17 RBI) and Emma Ward (.328) are leading Middleburg.
